Klong Prao in Koh Chang

Koh Chang is the second largest island in Thailand (ok, the third). And by far the most beautiful ! Located near the border of Cambodia, at the east of the Gulf of Thailand. Koh Chang does not suffer from over-development and mass tourism, probably due to the fact that the island is located on a National Park – preventing any development on 90% of its surface.

The west coast of Koh Chang is more developed than its east coast, because almost all the sand beaches of the island are in the west. Meanwhile the east coast of Koh Chang is also worth a visit, with its untouched fishing villages built on the sea and a very famous seafood restaurant (and many other tings to discover).

Apart from its beautiful beaches and different natural spots (mountains, rivers, waterfalls, etc.), Koh Chang is also the home to thousands of wildlife species : birds, insects, tropical flowers and plants. It’s a true beauty.

Klong Prao on the West coast

Sabaidee Resort is located in the heart of Klong Prao, the central village on the west coast of Koh Chang Рyou can see a very nice video of Klong Prao on this link, that was shot by Koh Chang Photographer.

The ideal location of Klong Prao and its beautiful beach make it a destination of choice for those who want to discover Koh Chang or simply come and spend a quiet stay.

The sandy beach of Klong Prao is the largest in Koh Chang – and in our opinion the most beautiful : a long stretch of sand, cut in half by a 5m large river that flows into the sea (it can be crossed only by swimming as there is no birdge). This is the ultimate exotic sand beach, bordered with coconut and palm trees, with a lot of spots to swim and relax. It’s also less frequented than other beaches on the island.

Although Klong Prao is a popular village, the village has never been crowded – unlike White Sand Beach for example – and even in the high season the beach is never fully crowded.

What makes the charm of Klong Prao is that it is a real village, with its local life, inhabited by a mix of Thai and foreigners, it does not feel like a touristic area. In Klong Prao, you can always find what you need, and nothing is never far away : street food sellers, mini-market, fruit sellers, ATMs, pharmacies, clinics, grocery stores, hardware shops, and more. At the back of the village is also the largest school of Koh Chang, which has a real impact on the atmosphere of the village.

Klong Prao also offers a lot of activities:

  • the Klong Plu waterfall is very fresh (2km from Sabaidee Resort) and it’s a nice spot to spend a funny afternoon
  • elephant camps
  • massage – the best massage of Koh Chang is in Klong Prao !
  • Book shops
  • Beach activities (Kayak, Stand-Up Paddle, etc.)
  • A snake farm
  • an Archery
  • Several cooking schools
  • Some of the best restaurants in Koh Chang
  • The biggest temple of the island
  • etc.

Although Klong Prao is not the best spot for nightlife in Koh Chang, there are some bars and karaokes – a good starting point for fun nights. For example Boom Bar, located 300m from Sabaidee Resort is a very nice bar.

As Dee One Property said: “Klong Prao has a lot of different atmospheres to offer: from the popular center, built around the most beautiful temple of Koh Chang and food shops where Thai people come to buy groceries before the night, to quiet seafood restaurants & guesthouses luxury on the klongs, self-catering, beachfront romantic restaurants and a lot of secrets to discover by yourself, KP is in our opinion the most pleasant place to live in Koh Chang.”. We agree !
